The Story

This unique screen print depicting bottles of the French mineral water Perrier was created by Andy Warhol in 1983 as an experimental design for an advertising campaign. Featuring a contour drawing of one bottle and photographic representations of two others in flat color, it is one of several commissions for advertising work that Warhol undertook in the 1980s. At the time, this strategy prompted some critics to condemn him for seemingly returning to his roots as an illustrator for hire. True to type, Warhol countered that “I was always a commercial artist.”
